For over 10 years, co-founder David Gibbs has been designing and delivering training courses for renewable energy and sustainability topics in underserved markets from Vanuatu to Haiti. He has witnessed first-hand the economic impact and transformational power of delivering skills development with a focus on local business creation. Historically, his engagement in training courses typically ended at the end of the course, then he subsequently learned from afar of students that went on to build businesses.
(consider edit/delete section) For two years, David Gibbs and Jeff Cheek worked together at a New York City-based solar project development firm. For the next few years, they continued their careers separately in the cleantech and sustainability fields and periodically brainstormed and debated what technology and business models from the developed world would have the most impact in emerging economies to create locally-owned, responsible, and sustainable businesses.
The devastation from the 2017 Caribbean hurricane season provided the impetus for him to finally put his years of experience to work with a focus on skills development and follow-on support to design and drive local business creation. Jeff Cheek, a former colleague of David's during their time in the renewable energy sector in New York, joins David on to manage Brick by Brick back-office operations.
